Roger
Penske, owner of Penske Motorsports, had a vision to turn
an old, rusting Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana, California into
a sprawling, state-of-the-art facility. Taking a big risk
that the large Southern California marketplace had a desire
for motorsports competition, he preceded to build what is
now Auto Club Speedway. (formerly California Speedway)

One of the most historic tracks in racing is also one of the
most popular among drivers, fans and the media. Year after
year, Richmond International Raceway puts on the best short
track show, and arguably the best racing anywhere. Why? Richmond’s
unique, ¾-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing,
yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway
feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and
banging that fans love, with the drivers’ skill playing a
major role in winning. In the words of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup icon
Rusty Wallace, those characteristics help make racing at the
track and the experience fans have while visiting, simply
“perfect.” Length: 3/4 Mile, Banking: 14 Degrees, Track Shape:

A multipurpose Media Facility stands sentry over the famous
half mile and the track is completely wired for national Television
coverage. Future plans call for increased stadium seating,
luxury sky boxes and computerized scoring and information
display boards. The new Stafford Speedway remains like the
old Stafford Speedway. When the old Agricultural Park opened
its gates in 1870 it was considered on the cutting edge. The
horses are gone as are most of the produce and agricultural
displays. In their place are 21st century programs. The thread
remains. One of excitement and a commitment to excellence!
